Sunday October, 26, 2008

We made it back into Omaha at 6:30am Sunday morning after 13 hours of driving. A few fun memories about the drive: Kyle got pulled over in Wyoming for speeding but luckily got off with a warning (Jantsen thought being pulled over by a cop was so cool); Kambryn slept most of the time in her seat except for the last 3 hours she slept on my lap which was not the most comfortable sleep for me being buckled in with a child on me but we were still safe; Jantsen looked like a zoombie trying to keep his eyes open so he wouldn't miss any part of the movie he was watching, he was out cold the second I turned off the TV, and we made it home with only spending $98.00 on gas (for the whole drive). Thank you dropping gas prices!

We had to make sure we were home Sunday morning to turn in the rental van but also because our primary program was that day! Jantsen had his own little part and I was alittle nervous that he was going to have a hard time saying it; mainly because we were gone the previous Sunday and also we missed the practice during the week and I hadn't even thought to practice it with him while we were in Utah. But on the way to church we practiced his line over and over and he was pretty excited to get to sit up on the stage with his friends and talk into the microphone.

I just want to say that once the program started the spirit was so strong in the chapel! I just absolutely love the innocence and simplicity of a child's testimony and love. They began the program with the song "I Am A Child of God". Oh how the words touched my heart that day! We don't have a large primary but everyone of them sang their little hearts out during that song as well as the other songs throughout the program. To sit and watch my little boy, my little son of God that I am responsible for teaching the gospel to, sing as much of the words that he knew and especially the chorus, what a marvelous feeling that was! I am so proud to be a mother and grateful that we live in Omaha, especially in our complex, where we have such strong neighbors and friends and examples that are around us all the time. Watching each little kid get up and say their parts and sing the songs and share their sweet love of Jesus Christ was so wonderful. It was a wonderful program!

Unfortunately I think the whole congregation could tell how much I was moved by the program. We totally picked the wrong place to sit: Right Dead Smack in the Middle, and I mean the very middle of the whole chapel!! I thought I kept it together pretty well, and I was fighting back the tears. For the first couple minutes I couldn't even look over at Jantsen while he was sitting up there on the stage or else I would have totally lost it. He was the 3rd little speaker to get up and say his part. Their class was suppose to talk about the first verse of I am a Child of God which says "has given me an earthly home with parents kind and dear". So they had to come up with a short sentence that tells what they love about or like to do with their family. Jantsen came up with "I love my family because we go on bike rides together." But he actually stood up there and nice and clearly said "I like to go on bike rides with my family." And yet again I almost lost it but only cried alittle. He did a great job. The whole program was so special and sweet. I am glad that Jantsen was apart of it.

It was such a wonderful day. I am so grateful for the influence and example that children have on my testimony of Jesus Christ.

Nelly, sounds like you are an awesome mom. I probably would have been crying with you. Thanks for sharing. This is from Chad by the way. Hopefully you remember me or this message might be a little weird.

Aren't the Primary programs the best? I am a Primary teacher and I cry like every Sunday even in Sharing Time!

That was such a sweet story. It's hard for me to believe Landon will be a sunbeam this year. CRAZY!
I'm glad that your ride home from fall break was pretty uneventful except for the being pulled over. It's always good to know everyone made it back safe. Have a Happy Halloween!

I love it when the Primary Program comes around unless ofcourse my calling is in the primary.:) I love to watch it from the audience. The kids always do such a good job and they're so dang cute up there. It's really funny to watch the parents too.:) I'm sure I'll be one of "those parents" one day.:)

I agree~ that little program was so touching. If it makes you feel better, my kids weren't up there and I still had a hard time keeping my eyes dry! Looks like your trip was fun... good to have you back!

Joel and I just received callings as sunbeam teachers. Our primary program is this Sunday and I'm a little nervous about it. This last last Sunday was our first experience with the kids in our class and we practiced for the program. Two of the kids are out of control and have a hard time sitting in their seats. One of the boys ran of the stage and out into the hall so I had to chase after him. Hopefully it will go smoothly and I'll be able to feel the spirit the children radiate.

Janel, I think you might be pregnant! No, but really it is quite something when you have a child singing those things, it just puts everything into perspective. Kids are just great spirits to have around.
