BRACKETOLOGY (I guess it is a big thing if it has a technical name for the whole process!)

Today it totally slipped my mind about it being St. Patrick's Day. I didn't dress my kids in green or make any green food or even say Happy St. Patrick's Day to anyone. I usually really love all holidays and make at least some effort to celebrate it, but this one just came and went. But better late than never, HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY!
However, with it being Monday we did have family home evening tonight, and Kyle decided to be in charge of planning the "Lesson". So with it being in the middle of the month of March, what do you think is pretty much the only thing on any normal guy's mind...March Madness of course. So what did we do for our lesson/activity? Pick our brackets of course!! (We did review the songs that Jantsen and the Primary are singing in Easter sacrament meeting on Sunday) But back to our Bracketology as it is formally named. This has actually been a running tradition in our little family. Ever since we have been married, every year about this time Kyle comes home one day and is all excited for us each to have our own little bracket picks. Usually with me I just pick the school that I have heard of or if I know it is a #1 or #2 team. One year I actually picked an amazing bracket, for the first few weeks or so and was totally ranked in the top 5% on ESPN but then went totally in the hole after that. But it is my claim to fame!!

Anyways, well the tradition is that we each do our own bracket, the kids are totally included on this and then we also do a Mascot bracket. (this is Jantsen and my favorite one to pick...kindof crazy that Kyle knows every single Mascot of all the teams playing, he knows a whole lot of random facts for those that don't know him) Anyways, you might wonder how we got Kambryn to pick her bracket. Well it all came down to our numerous Thomas the Train figures that either had a number or else a color on it. We gave her a bucket to choose from, and whichever one she grabbed, then we had to keep what ever was associated with it. For example, Percy is a green train with a number 6 on it. So we kept all the 6th ranked teams and all the teams that have green as one of their colors. We are brilliant aren't we!! While asking Jantsen about what teams he wants, Kyle usually gets the whole gruff, sports announcer voice as he pronounces the teams and their mascots, he tries to hide a bias tone with the favored team, but sometimes when picking between North Carolina and some last placed team, you got to spice up the word Tarheels somehow! Jantsen was all excited to sit on Kyle's lap and pick his teams. It was however taking a long time and half way through Jantsen half faked a big huge yawn and dramatically stated that "Oh my Gosh, this is taking forever!!" It was pretty funny. He did get to pick the teams by their mascots and I am happy to say that everytime "Cougars" was one of the options, yea...that was the one he picked! GO COUGS!! True Blue Through and Through!! (Poor Kyle, the Utes just don't have Jantsen loyalty.)
It was a fun night and I guess we will see how we all do with our BRACKETS!!
I also wanted to say Happy Anniversary to my sweet parents! They have been married for 29 fabulous years, and they are so great. There is so much I could say about my mom and dad and their marriage, but I just want them to know how much I love them! Thanks for being great examples and we love you both so much!

That's nerdy and cute Janel. Kyle is rubbing off on you, but just the nerdy part. It is very funny how you picked out Kambryn's! Greg's parents just celebrated their 30th anniversary!

I did remember to wear green on St.Patricks day but that was about it. I'm glad you guys were able to have a productive and fun family home evening of filling out your brackets.:) It does sound like a fun family tradition though.
