Alittle mess never hurt anyone
Last night Kyle was in charge of feeding the kids while I was gone. These are some pictures he took of Kambryn "going at" her mac and cheese. The funny thing about these pictures is, yes I know that she really isn't making that big of a mess, but I am so weird when it comes to my kids getting dirty while eating that, yes I look at these pictures and think, how could you stand to let her get so messy. I swear I was feeding Jantsen myself all the way until he was like 3. (well not really, but when it came to foods he would spill or sauce he would get all over his face, I wanted to feed him to keep him clean.) But I guess that has made him alittle over obsessed with being clean when he eats now. He absolutely Hates getting food on his hands and immediately has to wipe them off before he can continue eating. Makes for an easy cleanup!
Kyle and I are really starting to see how different Kambryn and Jantsen really are. Kyle told me that while she was eating her mac and cheese, she had the biggest smile on her face, kindof saying "Look at me dad, look how big I am eating by myself, look at my Mess, and look at how much fun I am having and how much mom never lets me do this!!" Another definite difference is watching her act when there are other kids (of all ages) around. When other kids come around her she will touch them, run up right in front of their face and smile or "talk" to them, play with what they are playing with, take their toys and is really not intimidated or shy at all.
Jantsen was definitely our more reserved child. He loved being around other kids, but usually liked playing with himself (mainly because he was so particular about how his toys or things worked or should be) He is more of a perfectionist and I think he liked to watch other kids test out toys or the slide and he would watch them, and then finally decide he knew how to do it the right way and then would test it out. He usually was content entertaining himself and could focus on the things he was doing. Kambryn on the other hand is like alittle tornado, going from toy to toy and spending about 5 minutes at the most until she is bored or looses interest.
So needless to say, this picture of her and the mac and cheese sparked some thoughts of really how different my kids are but they do have fun personalities!
We also got a nice surprise phone call from Brad saying they were in Omaha. We were glad Brad and Lisa stopped by on Sunday evening for about an hour so we could see them. Seeing them made us excited to see more family soon when we go to Utah.
Alittle update on Kyle and school. A while ago we were talking about getting a scholarship through the ROTC and then doing the whole army thing, but to make a long story short, we are not doing that anymore. He was too old (by 2 months) and then he was going to have to graduate a semester early, but anyways, so I am glad that he doesn't have to add that extra stress to an already stressful law school! He is finishing up his last final today for summer school and I couldn't be more ready for it! He is doing great and has studied hard, but I am ready to have my husband back home. I am sure he is ready for a break as well!

I guess you guys weren't meant to be in the ROTC! Heavenly Father wants you guys in a different direction apparently! Kambryn looks so stinkin cute with that food all over her face! I miss her! That was nice of Brad and Lisa to stop by too.
That is hilarious, I am the exact same way when it comes to feeding Isabel. I hate to clean up any mess she makes, so I just feed her myself, unless it is like toast or grapes or that stuff that isn't too messy. I need to loosen up too, but I dread the cleanup. Glad Kyle is done with school for the summer, I bet that is a wonderful feeling! I wanna go back to Hanscom pool soon!
Come here so we can make messes together, and have lots of slip n slide fun.
I am so happy that you read my blog! I check yours every couple of days! You are much better at updating... but I can't help it... I don't have those two adorable kids to write about! :D I can't believe how big Jantsen and Kambryn are. Crazy!
I think the 1st child is always a perfectionist...or that's what I've noticed. My little nephew is just like Jantsen. He hates to get stuff on his hands and he loves to organize his toys!:) And just like Kambryn his little sister is just the opposite. Kids are funny!
You are so funny! I kind of made Tanner a little obsessive too, but now he doesn't seem to care as much. The picture of Kyle in his uniform is cool. But it sounds like it will be good for him to not go that route. God's will I guess!?!
I am glad that you guys are safe in Utah and got to miss out on that storm! Wow! It's an adventure every day here! When we all get back from vacations we need to get Jantsen and Kael together. He needs a boy to be his friend!
I laughed when I read this. I am just like you Janel, I hate when parker gets dirty! Parker and Jansten are SO much a like.. its funny. He doesn't like his hands messy either.
I remember Jantsen always lining up his car/trains or whatever and now Parker does the same thing! I find things lined up all around our house. Looks like you guys are having lots of fun, we cant wait to see you in August!!
I hate messy meals too, but I finally decided that it stresses me out more to constantly wipe hands and table than it does to clean up one big mess at the end. There's no avoiding it! I know I always say this, but your kids are just so cute!
I know you are in Utah.. just wanted to say HI and we can't wait until august 6th to see you and your kids!!! countdown begins! I will have a HUGE belly by then but we'll come visit and play together :)
I AM SOO GLAD YOU LEFT A MESSAGE ON AINSLI'S BLOG. I WONDERED WHAT YOU GUYS WERE UP TO. YOU HAVE ADORABLE KIDS!!
