A Day At The ZOO to Remember

Today we ventured out to the amazing Omaha Zoo! It was a beautiful afternoon. The sun was out and for most of the time it was pretty warm. We walked over to the end of the zoo and saw the elephants and the Rhino's (a part of the zoo that I had yet had the chance to make it to in all the many times I had been there.) But today we spent about 3 hours at the zoo and walked around everywhere. There were a lot of cool things that we were able to see. While at the rhino exhibit, we saw the 3 rhinos scuffle/rough-house a little bit and also charge each other. I can not imagine being in Africa and having one of those enormous things charging me. It was pretty exciting to watch though. Another exciting thing was while crossing a bridge there was a few people throwing old stale bread over into a pond at some giant fish. These fish were going crazy trying to eat, well I should say suck/inhale, that bread! Here is a video of what it looked like. (there were layers of fish on top of fish trying to get to the bread.) I have never seen fish ever act like this!

The last but certainly the most entertaining happened at the gorilla house! As we were walking up to the silver back gorilla exhibit, a little girl stopped in front of us and said "Be careful, he will hit the glass." I was like yeah I know I have seen the gorillas once before come up and lightly hit the window. I wasn't expecting what was about to happen. Holding my ever-so-curious 3 year old Jantsen right up near the glass, I was talking to him about these huge animals. When all of the sudden this big gorilla casually started making his way towards us, just strolling like normal, then took two big steps and jumped right at the glass where we were standing and slammed his fists right at our face. OH MY HECK, I almost peed!! Freaked Jantsen out and Kambryn and Dustin but yet it was the coolest thing ever and so of course what did we do, try to get him to do it again!! This time I was ready with my camera and recorded the whole thing! This little bugger didn't like us I don't think! He really followed us where ever we went and hit the glass 4 other different times whenever we got up close to the glass! The little stink!! He probably just got amused at how much he scared the bageezies out of us!! But one guy came up to us and said that he has been watching this gorilla for about a half hour and said that everytime some new group came up to the exhibit this gorilla would keep his eye on them and casually work his way over to them and then hit the glass. So maybe it wasn't just us. But it did make for a great time at the zoo!
